Washoe County Sheriff Chuck Allen issued the following statement after learning that Darin Balaam has been elected to serve as the next Sheriff of Washoe County. Sheriff Allen is currently in Las Vegas attending a three-day meeting of the Nevada Sheriffs' and Chiefs' Association. Sheriff Allen will remain in Las Vegas through the end of the week in order to take part in the Special Olympics International Law Enforcement Torch Run conference.

"I'd like to express my heartfelt congratulations to Sheriff-elect Balaam. The Sheriff-elect ran a very professional campaign that focused on important issues challenging the Office and I sincerely believe the citizens of Washoe County made the right choice in electing Darin as our county's twenty-seventh Sheriff.

One of my goals as Sheriff is to leave the Office in better shape than I found it. To help ensure that goal, I plan to work closely with the new Sheriff-elect to create as smooth of a transition as possible between now, and the day he takes office on January 7.

I have invited Sheriff-elect Balaam to meet at the Sheriff's Office next Tuesday, November 13, to begin that process.

It has been an honor for me to serve as your Sheriff for these past four years. I look forward to continuing that service over the next two months and doing all that I can to help establish the next administration.

Again, congratulations to Sheriff-elect Balaam. I look forward to working with you beginning next week."

Sheriff Allen is available for interviews by phone from Las Vegas for interested media.
