The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office will join forces with participating law enforcement agencies in Nevada for a Joining Forces Speed Awareness Campaign from June 5 to June 21, 2024. This unified effort aims to enhance public safety through highly visible patrols across the state, focusing on raising awareness, educating motorists, and ultimately safeguarding lives.

Between 2017 and 2021, a total of 491 fatalities in Nevada were attributed to speeding, making it one of the leading causes of road fatalities in the state. Speeding isn't just about exceeding the posted speed limit; it also includes driving too fast during adverse weather conditions such as rain, ice, and snow, endangering not only your life but also the lives of others. The consequences can be significant, including greater potential for loss of vehicle control, increased stopping distance after perceiving danger, and more severe crashes resulting in greater injuries.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to reducing the number of fatalities on Nevada's roads to zero by increasing public awareness about the dangers of speeding, driving unrestrained, impaired driving, distracted driving, and more. For more information about safe driving and the Nevada Zero Fatalities goal, visit www.ZeroFatalitiesNV.com.

The Nevada Department of Public Safety’s- Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) provides funding for law enforcement agencies to participate in Joining Forces to reduce traffic deaths.
