On April 25, 2024, the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC) arrested 20-year-old Oscar Zamorano-Rea on charges related to the possession and distribution of Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM).

The arrest follows an investigation initiated in January 2024, when the ICAC Task Force received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children regarding uploads of CSAM to a chat application originating from Sun Valley, Nevada.

The ICAC Task Force investigated the tip and determined that the uploads came from the same residence. Further investigation revealed that the suspect’s chat account was sending CSAM to other users of the chat application.

ICAC Task Force detectives executed a search warrant for the residence, which belonged to Zamorano-Rea. Following the warrant's execution, detectives interviewed Zamorano-Rea and seized his cell phone. Subsequently, a search warrant was executed on Zamorano-Rea's chat account, leading to the discovery of additional CSAM files.

Zamorano-Rea is currently in custody at the Washoe County Detention Facility on felony charges, including possession of visual pornography of a person under 16, distribution of visual pornography of a minor, and use of the Internet to control visual pornography of a person under 16.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office spearheads the region's fight against child exploitation by dedicating full-time resources to the ICAC task force. These cybercrime investigators collaborate closely with the Sparks Police Department, FBI, Nevada Attorney General’s Office, Department of Homeland Security Investigations, and Carson City Sheriff’s Office to locate and apprehend offenders responsible for exploiting children. Task force members, deputized as Special Deputy United States Marshals, extend jurisdictional reach through participation in the FBI’s Child Exploitation Task Force.
