The Washoe County Sheriff's Office is seeking volunteers from unincorporated areas of Washoe County to help with a sting operation targeting thieves who attempt to steal packages left at residential doorways. The operation is scheduled to occur in various areas throughout Washoe County over the next several weeks due to the high number of package deliveries expected during the holiday season.

If you're interested in volunteering your porch for this operation, please contact Detective Todd Williams via email at tawilliamsjr@washoecounty.gov. We have seen a high level of interest in participation in this operation in previous years, and we are grateful for the overwhelming response from our community. We will make every effort to respond to those who inquire about this opportunity, so please be patient.

Working together, we hope to reduce package thefts during this holiday season!

Here are some useful tips that can help you to minimize the chances of your packages being stolen:

  • Track packages and try to be home when they arrive, or ask a trusted neighbor or friend to pick up the package
  • Have packages delivered to your workplace, if possible
  • Require a signature for package delivery
  • Have your packages delivered to delivery lockers
  • Use security cameras visible from the street
  • Report suspicious activity to law enforcement
