Regional Sex Offender Notification Unit Arrests Tier 3 Sex Offender
Kristopher Zimmerman is a convicted tier 3 Sex Offender and is registered in the State of Nevada. Zimmerman was convicted of Attempted Sexual Assault in 2012.
On October 13, 2023, the Sparks Police Department Patrol Team 4 located Zimmerman and arrested him for an outstanding felony warrant and possession of a controlled substance.
Following Zimmerman’s arrest, the Regional Sex Offender Notification Unit (RSONU) and Nevada State Police Parole and Probation began an investigation into Zimmerman’s sex offender registration status.
During the investigation, RSONU determined Zimmerman had failed to complete his August 2023 90-day registration as required by NRS 179D.550. RSONU also discovered Zimmerman had previously been convicted of Failure to Obey Sex Offender Registration Laws and Regulations on two separate occasions in 2018 and once in 2022. Based on this information, RSONU add booked Zimmerman for Failure to Obey Sex Offender Registration Laws and Regulations: 2nd Offense. Zimmerman is currently in the Washoe county jail.
The RSONU was formed in 1998 to be compliant with federal law passed in 1997.
There are approximately 1400 registered sex offenders in the Reno, Sparks, and Washoe County area. These offenders are monitored by investigators from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, Reno Police Department, Sparks Police Department, and Nevada State Police Parole and Probation.
The RSONU operates as a regional, multi-jurisdictional, and collaborative entity to carry out the requirements of community notifications as set forth in Chapter 179D of the Nevada Revised Statutes. The RSONU’s jurisdictional boundaries encompass all of Washoe County.
The Regional Sex Offender Notification Unit can be reached at 775-325-6483.
