Washoe County Detention Facility Inmate Passes Away at a Local Hospital While Receiving Medical Care for a Chronic Illness

On July 12, 2023, a Washoe County Detention Facility inmate was transported by REMSA to a local hospital to receive treatment for a chronic illness. The inmate was later placed on long-term hospice care and passed away at the hospital on September 7, 2023. This is classified as an in-custody death.

The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct its formal death investigation and release the inmate's name upon next of kin notification.

The inmate was booked into custody at the Washoe County Detention Facility on December 8, 2022, with existing medical conditions, including a chronic illness for which they had received treatment while in custody.
