Case: Washoe County Sheriff’s Office  23-2937, Nevada State Police NHP230600685

Suspect: Darnelle Boykins

Location: Reno, NV

On June 10th, 2023, the Nevada State Police dispatch center received a report of a reckless driver in the area of Veterans Parkway. Nevada State Police were dispatched to the area and located the vehicle parked at the Maverik gas station at 11795 Veterans Parkway in Reno.

A State Trooper made contact with an adult male driver, later identified as 34-year-old Darnelle Boykins, who then fled the scene. The Nevada State Police did not pursue the vehicle.

A short time later, State Troopers observed Boykins’s vehicle traveling around South Virginia Street and Kietzke Lane.

A State Trooper attempted to initiate a traffic stop of Boykins’s vehicle, which was now observed to be missing the left rear tire. Boykins failed to yield to the Trooper’s marked patrol unit, and a pursuit was initiated.

During the pursuit, Boykins crashed his vehicle in the area of Moana Lane and Neil Road, and an officer involved shooting occurred.

Boykins was taken into custody and booked into the Washoe County Detention Facility.

No injuries were sustained as a result of the officer involved shooting.

The Department of Public Safety requested the Regional Officer Involved Shooting Protocol team.
