Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Detectives Unit Lead Officer Involved Shooting Investigation in Reno

At approximately 6:20PM on Sunday, January 8, 2023, Reno Police Officers were responding to a call of a suspicious circumstance on the 1500 block of Sky Valley Drive in Reno.

At approximately 6:35PM, after an interaction with two male subjects, multiple shots were exchanged between two Reno Police Officers and the subjects.

One of the Reno Police Officers was struck by gunfire and was transported to a local hospital where he remains in critical but stable condition.

One of the male subjects was struck by gunfire and was pronounced deceased on scene.  His name will be withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The second male subject was also struck by gunfire and was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.  His condition is being monitored and will be re-evaluated tomorrow.

Reno Police then enacted the Washoe County Regional Officer Involved Shooting Protocol.  

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Detectives Unit will be the lead investigating agency on this incident. 

There are no outstanding suspects in this case and there is no danger to the public. 

Both Reno Police Officers have been placed on administrative leave while the investigation is being conducted. 

At the conclusion of the investigation, the investigative report will be turned over to the Washoe County District Attorney’s Office for review per the Officer Involved Shooting Protocol.
