Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam is reminding residents to not push their luck on St. Patrick’s Day, and to not drink and drive.

“St. Patrick’s Day is a holiday that is known for drinking beer and celebrating Irish heritage, but party safely,” said Sheriff Balaam. “The last thing anyone wants to see is a family broken by a horrific crash because someone was behind the wheel while impaired. I urge all Leprechauns tonight – plan ahead and have a safe ride home.”

Since March 1, 2021 there have been 107 people booked into the Washoe County Detention Facility for DUI.

“As always, Washoe County Sheriff deputies are working to keep our roads safe – tonight and every night,” continued Sheriff Balaam. “Paying for a safe ride home is not going to cost you a pot of gold, but a DUI might.”
