Regional Narcotics Unit, DEA dismantle local drug trafficking organization

Detectives with the Regional Narcotics Unit with the assistance of Drug Enforcement Administration, concluded an 11-month long investigation into a drug trafficking organization (DTO) selling heroin and methamphetamine in the Reno and Sparks area.

At approximately 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 27, 2021, RNU with help from DEA, Washoe County Sheriff’s Office detectives, Repeat Offender Program Unit, Reno Police Department K9s, and Douglas County Sheriff Office K9s, executed search warrants at three separate locations involved and arrested five suspects related to this investigation. In total, nine suspects were arrested and trafficking levels of narcotics, multiple vehicles, and a large sum of illicit currency were seized.  This successful operation dismantled a local drug trafficking organization.

The Regional Narcotics Unit is a regional task force unit of Nevada High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA) teams. RNU is comprised of detectives and investigators from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, Reno Police Department, Sparks Police Department, University of Nevada Police Services, Drug Enforcement Administration, and Homeland Security Investigations.
