Washoe County Sheriff's Office staff raised just over $4,200 to assist prostate cancer patients at the Renown Institute for Cancer during the third month of the Sheriff's Office 2018 "No Shave" campaign.

Sheriff Chuck Allen, along with members of his staff, presented a check for $4,216 to Susan Cox of the Renown Institute for Cancer and Leah Nelson of the Renown Health Foundation earlier today.

The funds were raised by deputies and Sheriff's Office staff who are allowed to have relaxed grooming or dress standards in exchange for a monthly charitable donation during the months of September, October, November, and December. A different recipient is chosen for each month.

The Sheriff's Office wanted to help male patients going through cancer treatment during the month of November in keeping with the "Movember" theme that was the original inspiration for the "No Shave" campaign when it began three years ago.

The "No Shave" campaign will continue through the end of the year. December's beneficiary is Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern Nevada.
