HAWK Drone-as-First Responder Program
The HAWK (High-speed Aerial Watch & Knowledge) Drone-as-First Responder (DFR) Program provides fast, safe, and responsible aerial support to first responders throughout Washoe County. By deploying drones to designated calls for service, HAWK provides responding personnel with real-time information that can improve situational awareness, reduce response times, and help first responders make informed decisions before and during an incident.
Drones can provide a bird's-eye view of an active incident, assist in locating missing or vulnerable persons, assess hazards, help determine appropriate resources and next steps, and much more.
HAWK is designed to respond to calls for service, not to proactively search for wrongdoing or conduct general surveillance. The program enhances the ability of first responders to respond safely and effectively while respecting individual privacy. All drone flights are performed in accordance with FAA regulations and agency specific waivers to ensure safe and legal operations
View Drone Flight Transparency
Transparency is an important part of HAWK. Drone flights are automatically logged through software, providing the public with access to information about where and how DFR technology is being used in the community.
Policy and Guidelines
The Drone-as-First Responder (DFR) Program operates under strict policies and procedures designed to protect individual privacy and civil liberties. All video access and usage is governed by protocols that ensure transparency, accountability, and the highest respect for the rights of our residents and business owners.
