As Washoe County residents make plans to celebrate the holidays, the Washoe County Sheriff's Office and other Nevada law enforcement agencies have an important message: make plans so you never have to drive under the influence!

Whether it's a designated driver or public transportation, everyone should make sure they have an alternative that avoids the possibility of making a bad decision that could lead to unnecessary tragedy.

As part of efforts to reduce driving under the influence and increase traffic safety, the Washoe County Sheriff's Office is participating in a statewide Joining Forces campaign over the holidays to heighten enforcement of DUI violations and increase awareness of the dangers of DUI.

From December 18, 2018 through January 1, 2019, the Sheriff's Office will dedicate extra deputies specifically to look for drivers under the influence. Funding for these extra patrols is made possible by a Joining Forces grant received from the Nevada Department of Public Safety/Office of Traffic Safety.

Joining Forces is a multi-jurisdictional law enforcement program aimed at reducing injuries and crashes through statewide enforcement in the areas of: DUI, speed, distracted driving, seat belt and pedestrian safety.

The goal of these enforcement campaigns is to save lives by increasing public awareness about the dangers of making poor choices while driving.
