Washoe County Sheriff Chuck Allen presented a $50,000 check to managers of the South Reno Walmart Superstore this morning on behalf of the Washoe County Honorary Deputy Sheriff's Association. The check will fund this year's Shop with the Sheriff; a special shopping spree for 250 local children in need scheduled for the first week of December.

"This check presentation is our opportunity to publicly thank the members of the Honorary Deputy Sheriff's Association for their generosity towards the children of Washoe County," Sheriff Allen said. "Over the years, Association members have donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to help make Christmas wishes come true for thousands of local children."

Shop with the Sheriff will take place at the South Reno Walmart Superstore during the evening of Tuesday, December 4, 2018.

Children are pre-selected through local non-profit social services agencies and the Washoe County School District. Each child is partnered with a member of the Honorary Association or a volunteer from the Sheriff's Office and taken on a store-wide shopping spree where they are allowed to spend up to $200 on clothes and toys for themselves as well as for members of their family. Restrictions on the nature and amount of funds which can be used for electronic games and devices are observed.
