A new K9 will soon be in service at the Washoe County Sheriff's Office thanks to a significant donation from Washoe County K9 Partners.

K9 Partners has donated $19,810 to the Sheriff's Office to acquire the new K9 along with the necessary gear. The donation will also cover additional equipment for the K9 Unit, including heat sensors for the K9 vehicles, and training for K9 deputies. The donation was accepted during today's Board of County Commissioners meeting.

The Sheriff's Office is extremely grateful to K9 Partners for this donation and their continuing support of our public safety mission.

Washoe County K9 Partners is a local non-profit organization that offers invaluable support for law enforcement K9s in our region. K9 Partners raises funds to help supplement the budgets of K9 programs and provide additional equipment, training, and medical needs.

Washoe County K9 Partners and the Sheriff's Office are currently working together to co-sponsor Barks and Badges, a unique community fundraising event scheduled for Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Bartley Ranch Regional Park.

Barks and Badges is a daylong family event that allows participants an opportunity to meet our community's incredible law enforcement K9s and handlers and watch them demonstrate some of their skills. The day includes music, games, vendors, and more for a requested $5 donation per car - all proceeds go to support the mission of K9 Partners.

Those who want to go a step further to support our law enforcement K9s are invited to attend the Barks and Badges VIP Dinner being held that evening at the Nugget Chalet Terrace.

For more information about the family event and the VIP Dinner, visit Washoe County K9 Partners on Facebook, or online at k9partners.org.
