More than a dozen members of the Washoe County Sheriff's Office staff, their families, and friends plan to shave their heads Friday evening when they join Reno's annual St. Baldrick's Day event to help the Northern Nevada Children's Cancer Foundation raise money to support childhood cancer research.

The Northern Nevada Children's Cancer Foundation has dubbed the Reno St. Baldrick's event "Shave for the Brave" and, according to their website, "Part of NNCCF's mission is to advocate for increased research funds with hopes one day our kids will be cancer-free. Each year around St. Patrick's Day we ask the community to ‘shave for the brave' and go bald in support of childhood cancer research.

"In partnership with the St. Baldrick's Foundation, NNCCF's annual Shave for the Brave events have raised more than $2.4 million since 2006. We have shaved more than 3,600 local heads!"

The Sheriff's "Green for Gold" team is one of nearly 30 teams featuring hundreds of people willing to bare their heads to help fight childhood cancer. Anyone who would like to support their effort may do so at: https://www.stbaldricks.org/teams/GreenForGold2018
