Washoe County Sheriff's Office staff donated more than four thousand dollars to the Northern Nevada Chapter of Concerns of Police Survivors following the third month of the Sheriff's five-month "no shave" charitable campaign.

Sheriff Chuck Allen and members of the Sheriff's Office staff presented $4,450 to Northern Nevada C.O.P.S.'s Board President Jennifer Grant-Blount and Treasurer Doug McPartland earlier today in front of Sheriff's Headquarters on Parr Boulevard (photo attached).

Grant-Blount said the funds will help support the non-profit's mission to provide resources that assist in the rebuilding of the lives of surviving families of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty as determined by Federal criteria.

Northern Nevada C.O.P.S. provides emotional and financial support as well as legal assistance to survivors of fallen officers for as long as that support is needed. For more information, visit their website: http://www.northernnvcops.org/

For February's beneficiary, the Sheriff's Office has chosen Special Olympics of Northern Nevada. Special Olympics Nevada provides athletic opportunities to children and adults with intellectual disabilities, instilling the confidence they need to succeed in life.

The Sheriff's Office is also forming a team to participate in Special Olympic's annual South Lake Tahoe Polar Plunge scheduled for March 17, 2018 in Zephyr Cove.

Here's how the Sheriff's Office "no-shave" effort works:

In exchange for a monthly charitable donation from November through March, Washoe County Sheriff's Office deputies will be allowed to grow facial hair outside the normal grooming standard. Female deputies are allowed to have relaxed hair standards in exchange for the monthly donation, and civilians may either take advantage of the relaxed grooming standards or wear jeans or hats.

At the end of each month, the donations will be presented to the charity or foundation represented that month. The organizations chosen for 2017/2018 are:

November: Nevada Cancer Coalition
December: Brittany Hartzell Baguley Memorial Scholarship Fund
January: COPS (Concerns of Police Survivors)
February: Special Olympics Northern Nevada
March: Northern Nevada Children's Cancer Foundation
