Statistics from the Washoe County Sheriff's Office participation in a recent Joining Forces "Click it or Ticket" traffic safety campaign indicate that drivers are buckling up, but still need to drive within posted speed limits and stay off their cellphones.

Of the 124 citations issued during this two week traffic safety campaign, only five were for seat belt violations. However, more than 60 citations were issued for speeding and 22 were issued for cellphone use.

The Sheriff's Office, along with officers from the Reno Police Department, Sparks Police Department and Nevada Highway Patrol conducted the "Click it or Ticket" campaign from November 18 through December 2, 2017. The following results for this campaign are from the Sheriff's Office portion of this campaign only.

Sheriff's Office patrol staff assigned to this "Click it or Ticket" campaign initiated a total of 97 traffic stops. Although a driver may be stopped for one violation, several other violations may be observed during the subsequent investigation making it possible that a driver may be issued citations for numerous violations.

The total number of violations cited and warnings issued by the Sheriff's Office during this event was 124:

61 speeding violations
22 cellphone violations
5 seat belt violations
1 running a red light
2 fugitive arrests
13 motor vehicle registration violations
6 failure to show proof of insurance
10 driver's license related violations
2 equipment violations
2 warnings

The Sheriff's Office participation in this Joining Forces campaign was made possible by grant funding received from the Nevada Department of Public Safety/Office of Traffic Safety.
