Update: Sheriff's Office Arrests Man in Series of Metal Thefts

The Washoe County Sheriff's Office has identified and arrested the suspect in a recent metal theft who was caught in the act of stealing scrap metal from an undisclosed business in Verdi, Nevada in the afternoon of Saturday, October 1, 2011.

Following the identification of Timothy Alsum 56 year old Verdi resident (Bk 11-17986), Washoe County Detectives Larramendy and Ramm identified Alsum in three other cases where he sold scrap metals stolen from the same business to a recycler in Sparks, Nevada. Although the investigation is still on-going, Detectives Larramendy and Ramm have identified in excess of $30,000.00 in stolen metals attributed to Alsum during the past year. Alsum was arrested on numerous charges, including felony possession of stolen property, burglary, and obtaining money under false pretenses related to a theft which occurred last year during November of 2010. Detectives anticipate more charges will follow.

Detectives continue to investigate Alsum and are seeking the public's assistance with any information.

The Sheriff's Office Detectives Division is continuing this investigation and would encourage anyone with information on this suspect to call 328-3320 or remain anonymous by calling Secret Witness at 322-4900.

Charges: Two counts of burglary, two counts of possession of stolen property, and two counts of obtaining money under false pretences. Bail is $20,000.00
